Chamberlain was active within the early field of installation art, working for over 3 decades until her death.

Born in Elizabethtown. Relocated to New York City where she came into contact with members of the avant-garde scene, but soon grew tired of the hectic pace of the city. On a vacation to Mexico, she fell in love with the country, and for the rest of her life she continued to spend time there most of the year, returning to her native Elizabethtown only during the warmer months. Being so far removed from New York cultural life, her work was rarely exhibited in the United States.
